Graysville Elementary School-Family Compact 2017-2018

 

This compact was developed jointly with representation from faculty, staff, and parents and families.  Graysville Elementary School will hold an annual meeting with faculty, staff, parents, and families to review and revise this school-family compact as needed.

 

Graysville Elementary School, in partnership with families and community desire to empower each child to achieve his or her fullest potential to become a lifelong learner and responsible citizen and to achieve the state's high standards.  We are committed to foster high achievement expectations and promote positive attitudes to attain equity and excellence in a safe and nurturing environment.

 

School Responsibilities

Graysville Elementary School will:

1.  Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the State's student academic standards as follow:

  • Assisting each child in achieving the essential academic learning requirements by adjusting instruction to accommodate student educational needs
  • Document ongoing assessment of each child's academic progress

2.  Hold parent-teacher conferences (at least annually in elementary schools) during which this compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual child's achievement.

  • During a PTO Annual Meeting the compact is discussed with families.
  • Parent-Teacher Conferences are held twice a year.  The dates and times are communicated through out school calendar at the beginning of the year and reminders are sent through classroom newsletters, SchoolCast messages and social media sites.  These conferences are scheduled in the evening to accommodate the families.

3.  Provide families with frequent reports on their children's progress.

  • Every grading period, families are notified of student progress by means of a 4 week midterm progress report and a 9 weeks report card.
  • The school staff is encouraged to maintain open lines of communication with students and families.

4.  Provide families reasonable access to staff.

  • In addition to the scheduled parent-teacher conferences, the school staff is available daily at the school for consultation during a scheduled time.

5.  Provide families opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child's class and to observe classroom activities.

  • During fall registration families are provided the opportunity to sign up for the school volunteer program.
  • Family members can volunteer by assisting the teacher in the classroom, preparing materials for classroom, assisting in the library, reading to students, or by attending field trips and special activities.
  • Family members can volunteer or observe classroom activities as scheduled with school staff.

 

 

Family Responsibilities

We, as family members, will support our children's learning in the following ways:

  • Monitoring attendance by seeing that my child attends school regularly and is on time.
  • Notifying the school of any information changes for communication purposes.
  • Making sure my child has completed homework assignments.
  • Participating, as appropriate, in decisions relating to my children's education by attending parent-teacher conferences, communicating frequently with school staff, and by volunteering when possible.
  • Promoting positive use of  my child's extracurricular time by talking with them about their school activities each day, by reading with them to read at home, and by helping them apply their learning to daily life.
  • Serving, to the extent possible, on policy advisory teams.

 

Student Responsibilities

We, as students, will share the responsibility to improve our academic achievement and achieve the State's high standards.  Specifically, we will:

  • Work cooperatively with students and staff.
  • Be on time for school and attend regularly.
  • Come to school prepared with homework and supplies.
  • Try to read outside of school daily.
  • Strive to do our best work.
